Jim Engstrom recently served as a Guest Editor for a Special Topic in The Journal of Chemical Physics. Working with Prof. Andy Kummel at UC San Diego, Jim developed the topic entitled: “Atomic and Molecular Layer Processing: Deposition, Pattering and Etching,” and over 20 research groups world-wide contributed to this special issue.  Thin film processing technologies that promise atomic and molecular scale control have received increasing interest in the past several years as traditional methods for fabrication begin to reach their fundamental limits.  It is anticipated that research in this topical area will impact a variety of technologies including optoelectronics, photovoltaics, displays and micro-electromechanical systems, and possibly areas such as batteries, fuel cells and supercapacitors.
