Joshua Woods awarded AHA Pre-doctoral Fellowship

The American Heart Association (AHA) Pre-doctoral Fellowship is awarded to pre-doctoral candidates to support research broadly related to cardiovascular function, disease and stroke. This award will provide Josh financial support for the remainder of his Ph.D. studies.

Josh's work in the Wilson lab, specifically focuses on developing metal complexes as tools for studying the role of mitochondrial calcium uptake in heart failure and stroke, and how these complexes behave in biological systems. These tools will help to further understand the biological mechanisms that are active during a heart attack or stroke and hopefully inspire new therapies to reduce the fatality of these events.
