Varner Lab received a 2-yr grant from the Department of Defense to model the biochemistry and biophysics of penetrating, blunt force and burn trauma for $567,416.

This project is part of a large multi-center effort involving UCSB, University of Vermont and Cornell in combination with clinical sites at UCSF, University of Vermont and The Burns/Trauma Section of MedStar Washington Hospital Center.  Varner Lab intends to apply engineering principles to understand how the body responds to trauma both acutely and longer term.
