Renewable Energy Project Development: Industry and Career Prospects and Some Key Research Needs

Development of renewable energy projects is a rapidly growing field, in response to state and federal policies and economic factors driving investment in new projects around the world. What does this field look like from the inside? What skills are needed and opportunities are there, and what does the industry’s future look like in the big picture, both in the US and internationally? What are the R&D needs of the industry? Come participate in an interactive discussion and Q&A on this growing sector.

Marguerite is Vice President of Renewable Development with Invenergy, and heads up Invenergy’s onshore NY development work based here in Ithaca. Her team and colleagues have a portfolio of 3000+ MW of onshore and offshore wind, solar, HVDC transmission, and battery storage projects in NY in development currently. Prior to joining Invenergy, Marguerite developed Black Oak Wind Farm, a 16 MW wind project in Tompkins County where she crowdfunded $3 million in community investment to develop the project. She is a fifth-generation New Yorker, and was in undergraduate in Cornell’s Class of ‘99. She got her Masters in Environmental Sustainability back before anyone had heard the word ‘sustainability’ from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.
