More than any other factor, people have a huge impact on your life as an undergraduate or graduate student – your faculty, fellow students, visiting researchers and scholars, and the folks you don’t interact with most days – like the president, provost, and trustees – who make decisions that affect the quality of your education and experience. That’s why, in CBE and throughout Cornell, we place huge emphasis on choosing the best-of-the-best. We are also wholeheartedly committed to creating a genuinely diverse community in which varied backgrounds and perspectives regularly produce wider understanding, fresh insights and new ideas. Added to that, we set the gold standard in collaboration – it’s part of our Cornell DNA. That’s why, when you look and listen, you’ll find legends, and legends-in-the-making at Cornell – all in an atmosphere of respect and delight. In CBE, we choose to focus on areas of research that will change the future of chemical and biomolecular engineering – and the future of life. The fifteen faculty members in our school have diverse specializations, but work together in various collaborations with one another and others across campus in these four research areas: biomolecular engineering; nanoscale electronics, photonics and materials processing; complex fluids and polymers; and sustainable energy systems. More than a dozen excellent staff members support our research and teaching missions and manage our facilities. Visiting faculty, post-doctoral scientists, and other researchers further enrich our environment, as do faculty and students in other disciplines across campus.
