ChemE Car Team with 2011 AIChE President, Maria Burka

After numerous hours of calibrations, the Cornell ChemE Car team took first place and the most consistent award at the 2012 National ChemE Car Competition in Pittsburgh, PA.  With a distance of 21 meters as the goal, they made zinc air batteries to power the car and an iodine clock reaction as the stopping mechanism.  For the first run, the car landed 0.03 meters from the line, a distance unbeatable by the other teams.  Striving to do better and beat their nearly perfect run, they re-mixed chemicals for the second run and landed at the 21 meter mark, exactly on the line!
