Our research at Cornell aims at the full realization of the unique properties of semiconductor nanocrystals as building blocks in solar energy conversion and storage devices. The ability to tune the size, shape, and composition of these materials allows us experimentally test fundamental quantum mechanical concepts and simultaneously engineer materials with optimal optical and electronic properties. Through these efforts, we hope to identify scaleable and environmentally benign semiconductor nanomaterials for their application in low-cost, high-efficiency solar cells.
